How to Care for Slate Tile
Slate tile is often used both outdoors and indoors. When used indoors, special care needs to be take to ensure that the tile you use stays in good condition for years to come. With proper maintenance, this is entirely possible.
Sweep Regularly
Vacuuming can spread about the dirt, ultimately scratching the floors, so use a broom to sweep up any dirt, dust or hair regularly. It is best to try and sweep at least once per week if possible.
Regular Mopping
Once a week after sweeping, mop the floor with a soft mop. There is no need to use any soap or commercial cleaners on a regular basis, and warm water is generally enough for weekly cleaning.
Thorough Cleaning
A few times each year, mix up a solution of 1 gallon of warm water and 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent. Mop this solution over the slate floor, rinsing off with water afterwards. Be sure to let the area air dry, and avoid walking across it during this time to avoid any unsightly footprints.
